Dental Bridges Near You
Are you missing one or more of your natural teeth? If this is the case, you will need an effective tooth restoration solution. Dental bridges are a standard method and considered to be most convenient when replacing damaged, broken or missing teeth. A dental bridge may be recommended to you by our dentist in South Tampa, Dr. Charles Martin after receiving a consultation. There are certain aspects for you to consider before seeking treatment.
The Procedure
This procedure requires more than one visit to our dental office. In order to ensure the completed dental bridge fits comfortably in the mouth, a dentist will take impressions of the patient’s teeth. During this first visit, the dentist may also prescribe a temporary bridge. When the dental bridges are placed, two porcelain dental crowns (anchors) must be placed over the teeth surrounding the gap. In addition, a replacement tooth is also designed to attach to the dental bridge between the anchors, filling in the empty spaces. After the dental bridge has been adjusted to fit the mouth accurately, it is permanently fixed in place.
Advantages of Dental Bridges?
There are several advantages to getting dental bridges. Not only do dental bridges provide effective oral functionality, they completely transform your smile for seamless, natural-looking results. The additional advantages of receiving a dental bridge treatment are as follows:
- They restore a patients smile, overall appearance, and confidence
- They restore a patient’s ability to chew and speak comfortably
- They replace the patients missing teeth which evenly distributes the forces in a patient’s bite
- They prevent the patient’s natural teeth from shifting out of proper positioning
What are Dental Bridges Made of?
Typically, dental bridges are crafted using porcelain in conjunction with precious metal. The porcelain is bonded to the precious metal for strength and natural results. In many cases, other non-precious metals are used to improve the strength of the dental bridge further. With that being said, there are new bridges that are made out of one hundred percent porcelain which contains enhanced strength and durability.
How Long Do Dental Bridges Last?
With proper care and good oral hygiene practices, dental bridges can last a lifetime. On average dental bridges last over five years. Our dentist will provide patients with specific instructions to properly care for their dental bridges and ensure longevity and long-term use.
Will it Be Difficult to Eat with a Dental Bridge?
In short, the answer is no. Replacing the missing tooth allows the patient to eat more comfortably just as teeth naturally would. Note, for the first few days after the dental bridge has been placed, patients should consume soft foods or foods that have been cut up into pieces. Once the patient has adjusted to the dental bridge, food limitations are no longer necessary.
